Sharon Kennedy is Danbro Financial Planning’s new Mortgage and Protection Specialist. We officially welcomed her into the Danbro Family earlier this week, and wanted to give you the chance to hear from her yourselves; about her role, her history, and her vision for the future.
Sharon started her brand new role on Monday, and she began by referencing the rather strange set of circumstances in which she joins the team.
‘I'm really positive about joining Danbro'
“In the current climate, people may think I'm crazy to be moving jobs,” she said. “But I feel really positive about joining Danbro Financial Planning.”
“The move to Danbro has come at the right time for me,” Sharon continued. “I’m excited to be part of a very experienced team within the award-winning Danbro Group. A team that provides a high-quality suite of financial planning services to you - whether your objectives relate to your mortgage, protection, investment or retirement needs.”
As you know, ‘trust’, ‘respect’ and ‘family’ are three of the cornerstone values that underpin what we do here at Danbro. Quite appropriate then, that husband and wife duo, Liam and Karen, should be reuniting with an old friend and colleague.
“I’ll be working alongside Liam, who I first worked with 15 years ago,” Sharon explained. “We both share a passion for high standards of client care and good, honest, professional advice.”
“[My arrival] will allow Liam to concentrate on further developing - and delivering - our financial planning service, taking care of your pension and investment requirements. Meanwhile, I’m joining the team as a dedicated Mortgage and Protection Specialist, to enhance our service offering. This means, as a Danbro Financial Planning client, you’ll get a ‘one stop shop’, taking care of all your financial advisory requirements.”
'Complex cases are my norm'
Sharon brings with her a wealth of industry experience. With a background in banking and independent mortgage advice, she has spent almost a quarter of a century in the financial sector, including working successfully for high street names such as Santander and HSBC. This grounding, she says, has given her “a broad experience in different areas.”
“Over the years I have seen the ‘weird and wonderful’ and dealt with a wide variety of circumstances,” Sharon explained. “So, if you’re thinking: ‘I don't think someone will be able to help me in my situation’, think again!”
“Complex cases are the norm for me. What’s more, if it’s not something I've come across before I love a challenge!”
In her unique role at DFP, Sharon specialises in helping secure mortgages, re-mortgages and second charge loans for contractors, self-employed personnel, and people with adverse credit histories or unusual incomes.
“I also love working with first time buyers too,” she says. “Helping people buy their very first home still gives me a real buzz, even after all these years.” And, like all good financial and mortgage advisors, hard work and diligence are the order of the day.
“I recently had a client who had been to ten - yes ten! - different brokers and still not managed to get the mortgage he wanted. I really wanted to help him and, after I was able to reach beyond the ‘computer says no’ mentality that many lenders and brokers adopt, I’m proud to say he was able to complete on his property.”
“I realised that I needed to get an underwriter to apply a ‘common sense approach’ to the proposal. So, I used my previous experience of manually underwriting mortgage cases to ‘package’ the case, making it easier for them to understand and approve. And, thankfully, they did!”
“Needless to say, my client was very happy and so was I.”
Get in Touch
But whilst Sharon is extremely passionate about her job, and her clients, her home life keeps her just as busy - though she wouldn’t have it any other way.
“Although I love my job, obviously my home life is equally important. And I’m extremely proud of my two sons. Ethan, aged 10, is a budding footballer, while my eldest son, Jacob, 16, is a musician!”
So, what does she do with her spare time?
“I spend my weekends enjoying being a ‘football mum’. This is where you find me most of the time - on the side-line cheering Ethan's team on,” she says. “Then it’s onto drumming lessons with Jacob - who takes after me on the music front.” A keen musician herself, Sharon is also training to become a black belt in self-defence karate! So, we’d better leave the last word to her:
“Over the next few weeks I’ll be updating you about the changing market in these unfamiliar times, focusing on different issues to give you information on the areas we can help you with. Whilst it's strange to be starting a new job from home, please do feel free to contact me - even if you’re not ready to proceed and just need some direction to plan for the future, or if you simply want to say hello.”
“I look forward to speaking with you soon.”
Welcome to the Danbro Family, Sharon.
