Amidst COVID restrictions, Brexit regulations, and an ever-changing economic landscape, it’s been a New Year like no other - and it’s not even February yet! So, to continue on that theme of exceptionality, this month’s DFP newsletter will be slightly different… as we officially launch a brand new section of our website dedicated solely to mortgages and insurance!
More on that to come, but first, we begin this update with a brief message from your Director of Danbro Financial Planning, Liam Winstanley. Enjoy.
A message from our Director…
“Hello and welcome to our January newsletter. As you may know, we officially launched our mortgage proposition last year and I’m delighted to say that this has been extremely well received. Our Mortgage and Protection specialist, Sharon, has been doing an excellent job (in a difficult market!) helping people move home, buy their first home, and refinance, with the right mortgage and protection solutions for them.
As you’ll read in this newsletter, we’ve now updated our website to include more information about this service, including a handy online mortgage calculator and a contact form to get in touch with us regarding any mortgage-related requirements. Have a look and see what you think!
In other matters, 2021 has started with us all grappling with continued COVID lockdowns, infections and, very sadly in some cases, deaths. We do have some hope and optimism moving forwards though as the vaccination programme gains momentum. Geopolitically, the Trump presidency has come to an end and Brexit “has been done”. We wait to see what impact all this will have on investment markets but in the meantime, please do look after yourselves and stay safe.
Our Mortgage & Protection Services…
Despite persistent uncertainty and a volatile economy, the resilience of the property industry is something we can all take encouragement from. As Liam touched on, it’s been wonderful to see so many of you engaging with Sharon Kennedy, our Mortgage and Protection Specialist, since her arrival last spring. So much so that, creating an online presence in order to service that demand has been a natural step to take. With updated services including: an interactive mortgage calculator; in-depth advice and guidance on the market’s best mortgage and protection products; and integrated contact options for improved communication; it’s now easier than ever for you to understand and locate the mortgage or protection service you need. Find out more below…

This month’s featured article…
In lieu of our regular news round-up, this month’s featured article emanates from the new US President’s decision to re-join the UN’s Paris Agreement. With Joe Biden’s commitment to tackling climate change, and with the UK set to host an international conference on the topic later in the year, it’s important to consider the impact this all has on investments and global financial markets. More specifically, ‘how those managing their own money, be it via stocks and shares ISAs or pension fund allocations, can gain exposure to this growing sector?’
Writing in The Yorkshire Post (apologies to our Lancastrian readers - but this is a good story…), Arnie Staal, the Global Head of Research and Product Management in the LSE’s Information Services Division, considers whether 2021 could be a ‘defining year for climate themed investing’. Take a look.

On a lighter note…
After almost 11 months of restrictions, finding new and exciting things to do during lockdown can be a challenge. Once you’ve out star-jumped Joe Wicks, and when Netflix has nothing else ‘you may be interested in’, it’s important to find other things to occupy your mind.
So, Yahoo! UK have compiled 10 lockdown activities to have a crack at! They claim ‘there’s something for everyone’ with tips including embroidery and making your own pasta (look, we’re doing our best here…). We’ll let you be the judges, but if it somehow fails to get the juices flowing, there is some positive news: Sunday marks the end of Dry January!
